A showdown between the new generation Haval H6 and CS75 PLUS, which one is more
tech | 2024-07-20
Regardless of the era of fuel-powered vehicles in the past or the current environment dominated by new energy, when it comes to domestic compact SUVs, there are two veterans that are hard to avoid discussing—Haval H6 and Changan CS75 PLUS.
For most consumers with a budget of around 100,000, who are looking to buy a fuel-powered SUV for home use, these two SUVs have been best-sellers for many years, and their reputation is naturally assured. Now that the new generation of Haval H6 has arrived, which of these two domestic compact SUVs is more suitable for home use? In this episode of Car Battle, we compare these two vehicles.
01
Comparison of Operating Costs
Firstly, both vehicles are 2.0T versions. The new generation Haval H6 features a 2.0T+9DCT powertrain, while the Changan CS75 PLUS is equipped with a 2.0T+8AT powertrain. At the same time, to better simulate everyday usage scenarios, we drove the new generation Haval H6 and Changan CS75 PLUS from Chengdu to Dujiangyan, emulating daily commuting to and from work. The total distance was approximately 116 kilometers, which included: rural roads, urban expressways, and highway sections (the largest proportion).

Both vehicles had two passengers, with the air conditioning set to level 2 at around 20 degrees Celsius throughout the journey. Under the same route and speed conditions, the Changan CS75 PLUS achieved a driving distance of 117.7 kilometers, with a displayed fuel consumption of 8.0L/100km. The actual fuel consumption, calculated from the 9.71L of fuel added, was 8.25L/100km, indicating a certain discrepancy.
The new generation Haval H6 showed a displayed fuel consumption of 7.3L/100km, with an actual fuel consumption of 7.36L/100km after adding 8.58L of fuel. It can be seen that, under normal driving conditions, the new generation Haval H6 has a more fuel-efficient advantage.
02
Driving Experience Comparison
In terms of driving experience, the Changan CS75 PLUS is equipped with a 2.0T Blue Whale power engine, with a maximum power output of 171kW and a peak torque of 390N·m, matched with an Aisin 8AT transmission. Although this 2.0T engine has impressive parameters, its actual acceleration performance is not particularly strong. However, it is fortunate that the Aisin 8AT transmission it is paired with is sufficiently smooth, resulting in an overall acceptable driving experience. In comparison, the new generation Haval H6 is equipped with an advanced 2.0T engine, with a maximum power output of 175kW, and can achieve a peak torque of 385N·m from 1700 to 4000 rpm, thus offering stronger and more sustained performance. Concurrently, it is matched with the world's first transverse 9DCT wet dual-clutch transmission, ensuring smooth driving even in urban stop-and-go traffic conditions.
Additionally, we specifically tested a section of mountain road in Dujiangyan to experience the chassis quality of these two compact SUVs. Firstly, the CS75 PLUS features a front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension, which provides good support on winding mountain roads, coupled with ample power reserves, making its overall performance quite commendable among its peers in the compact SUV segment.
The new generation Haval H6 also employs a front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension system. However, at a similar price point, the new Haval H6 additionally integrates the BorgWarner Haldex sixth-generation intelligent electronic all-wheel drive system. When driving on mountain roads, the new Haval H6 exhibits greater vehicle stability and offers a better sense of control.
More crucially, it also offers a variety of driving modes. Therefore, whether it's mountain roads, slippery surfaces, or off-road conditions encountered during weekend outdoor camping, it can handle them all with ease and safety, features that the CS75 PLUS lacks.
Then, on the highway section, we specifically tested the NVH performance of both SUVs. The Changan CS75 PLUS registered decibel values of 62.5dB, 65.1dB, and 68dB at speeds of 80km/h, 100km/h, and 120km/h, respectively. Under the same conditions, the new generation Haval H6 measured 61.5dB, 64dB, and 67.2dB, indicating a quieter ride.More critically, the new generation Haval H6 also features 9 speakers, including an additional subwoofer compared to before, which results in superior sound quality compared to the CS75 PLUS. This is particularly friendly for consumers who need to commute on highways daily.
03
Comparison of Intelligent Configurations
For young consumers, comfort and intelligent configuration experience are crucial. Firstly, the new generation Haval H6 has switched to a shift-by-wire design, which offers better convenience compared to the traditional gear lever of the CS75 PLUS. At the same time, with the adoption of the shift-by-wire design, the central control area will also be more streamlined.Additionally, many car owners nowadays prefer to use voice commands rather than manual controls while driving. The new generation Haval H6 is equipped with a Coffee Intelligent Cockpit System that not only responds quickly but also supports complex voice commands, allowing most common functions to be controlled verbally, ensuring safety and convenience. In contrast, when issuing the same voice commands, the feedback from the Changan CS75 PLUS is quite average.
Finally, in terms of intelligent driving, the new generation Haval H6 is equipped with the most comprehensive L2-level intelligent driving assistance system in its class, which can be activated as soon as it enters the highway. This feature allows for hands-free driving on highways, reducing driver fatigue, and in complex road sections, it can prevent collisions with pedestrians and vehicles, significantly reducing the severity of accidents.
In comparison, although the Changan CS75 PLUS also comes with a relatively rich set of L2-level intelligent driving assistance features, the specific functions of the CS75 PLUS we rented (with over 30,000 kilometers) were malfunctioning, so we did not have the opportunity to experience them.
04
ConclusionFor the vast majority of consumers, price is also an important factor that influences their choice of car models. Currently, the CS75 PLUS is about to be replaced, so the current model is heavily discounted. Although the new generation Haval H6 has just been launched, it offers a lot of value, with significant launch discounts, up to a maximum of 2.7w, making it possible to get it for less than 100,000. Therefore, whether it comes to intelligent configuration, driving experience, or fuel economy, the new generation Haval H6 has more advantages than the CS75 PLUS. So if you have a budget of over 100,000 and are looking to buy a compact SUV suitable for family use, the new generation Haval H6 is worth your serious consideration.
